Glass Internal Doors
Glass Internal Doors are best suited to the kitchen/dining or living areas in the home. They provide the option of opening up or dividing your space, depending on your needs. This is a very useful option for families with children, allowing parents to supervise play while preparing dinner, or for entertaining, as they open up space.

See our recent blog on glass vs glazed internal doors here.

Internal doors are an important design consideration when designing the interior look and feel of your home or office.
Be sure to choose a door design and material that will compliment the rest of the room to continue the look throughout, from room to room, or room to hallway.

For internal doors, there is a wide range of choice available, and one of the bigger decisions to make is that between glazed and glass internal doors.

Both have the advantage of allowing additional natural light into a room, but there are significant differences and uses for glazed and glass internal doors.

Glazed Internal Doors
A glazed internal door is any door with glass panes or panels and top and bottom rails. The advantage of glazed internal door is the glass panes may be clear or frosted, with a design or without. This allows for a degree of privacy, while allowing natural light into the room.

Glass Internal Doors
A glass internal door is fabricated without stiles or rails and consisting entirely of thick, heat-strengthened, or tempered glass. They are also commonly referred to as French doors, and feature a single large pane of glass surrounded by a wood or metal frame. French doors typically use clear glass without a design or frosting, mostly used in entertaining rooms in homes such as kitchen or living rooms.

Whatever your choice or preferences, ensure that the materials and design of your internal doors match the look of the rest of the building.

As we all know that door Architraves are what turn the a bland doorway into a grand entrance for each room. Architraves along with skirting boards create an overall framework for your home. Chose clean polished lines for your Architraves to add elegance to any room.

Architraves also have a functional purpose by hiding the gap between the wall lining material, door jamb or window frames.

Why have some of the doors in my house have architraves only along one side and the top?

Generally this is due to a lazy builder - rather than going to the trouble of centering the opening for the door so that there is room for the door architraves on three sides they make the opening up against a right angle wall. This is generally done with block walls as it saves the builder the trouble of cutting the blocks and returning a nib or return wall. It spoils the look of the door, and detracts from a balanced look and feel to the room.

It can be especially noticeable if you are using high end designer door sets where the door, frame, and architraves are factory finished like a piece of furniture.

Before you begin add doors to your home, you should ensure that you or your contractor has a firm grasp of what the finished project will be like. Your vision and your contractors vision of what you are trying to achieve should be extremely similar if not the same.

Your home will be style to your tastes, so having an unambiguous panel door for each room is very lacklustre. It will diminish the style and value of the whole house, so when you are buying internal doors the factors you should consider is the overall style of the house you are trying to achieve.

The most common doors are the 6 panel that you would find just about everywhere. The door is typically 80 inches tall and has a range of widths varying from 28 – 40 inches. Your internal doors height is set by the height of the ceiling, but ensure consistent aesthetics it is recommended that you align the top of the door frame with the tops of windows.

A door is constructed of three basic pieces: stiles, rails and panels. The left and right vertical elements are called stiles. The stile with the hinges is called the hinge stile, while the stile with the doorknob is called the lock stile. These rails slot into and connect to the stiles. At the top and bottom are, naturally enough, the top rail and bottom rail. On six-panel doors, unlike the one-panel doors, there are also the cross rail and the lock rail. Some doors also have additional vertical pieces that connect the rails, which are called mullions. All of these basic components form a grid that creates the overall structure of a door.

Now that you have a basic grasp of an internal structure is like and what you need to achieve your vision and goals with minimum stress.
